The Wikipedia article on Robert Towns has links to the
National Library of Australia website with readable documents from the time and
searchable sources https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Robert_Towns
, in particular here https://trove.nla.gov.au/newspaper/article/3165212
and here https://nla.gov.au/nla.obj-497822142/view?partId=nla.obj-497822295
and anyone can search google for “Blackbirding”
and “Slavery in Australia”. If you are
brought far from home on a lie and its recorded that you stopped work after
finding out but were kept against your will, that’s a fair indication of
slavery.
Here is another angle. Given all this history, why
would the statue have been erected in 2005?
The Monument to Robert Towns on Castle Hill was from
his grave and erected in 1949. A different time , PRIOR to the dismantling of
THE WHITE AUSTRALIA POLICY.
(I had to take my own pics to avoid media copyright)
The Mabo native title case was handed down by the High
Court in 1992 and the legitimacy of ALL past acts of oppression were called
into question. Fascist One Nation had taken 11 state seats in 1998 and one in Thuringowa
where labor needed votes. There was a council election in 2004 and the Townsville
Mafia , which is what Towns was in his time, was paying off Townsville Labor http://democracyforsale.net/search-aec/ and my blog http://cynicismcentraltownsvilleaustralia.blogspot.com
What was required was something to re-legitimise what
had ALREADY been de-legitimised in Towns time, to protect the version of
history preferred by the people who may wish to continue to attack the
indigenous community, and fight any native title claims for financial gain.
This fed into their narrative. In fact there were many
vicious things said in Townsville against ANY NATIVE TITLE CLAIM OVER THE
NATIONAL PARK ON MAGNETIC ISLAND in the media .
During the vicious Nelly Bay Magnetic Island Harbour
environmental conflict all claims of Aboriginal heritage were attacked. There
was much more the mafia wanted to do on the Island too. This was by the people
who were previous donors to the 2004-05 Townsville City Council.
You couldn’t put up a permanent statue and
interpretive sign without a resolution of the council under the previous local
government act and local laws. An interpretive sign became an official sign and
continues to be under new by-laws. It has a Council logo. For all intents and purposes,
it’s a council statue. For instance see Council register of public art https://www.townsville.qld.gov.au/__data/assets/pdf_file/0027/6588/Register-of-public-art.pdf
p1
At all times, it was the then mayor and councillors in
2004-05 who were responsible for putting the statue there in THE MODERN ERA WHERE
THE HISTORY HAS BEEN SETTLED.
For the Qld labor party council in 2005 to erect a
sign saying the opposite was an unconscionable lie.
This is why there are calls to tell the truth, whether
or not the statue is removed. If it is removed something has to be put there
saying why it removed and telling the history of the Townsville mafia of the 19th
Century after whom the City is named for all to see. And condemning those who
put the statue and the lie there in the modern era.
Tony Mooney was Mayor from 1989-2008 and Jenny hill
was a councillor from 1997, Deputy Mayor from 2007-08 and Mayor 2012 to present.
The corruption in Townsville has only increased. And
the far right is the same as in the USA when it comes to latching and rusting onto
those who defend their interests and who create the space to make fascists feel
comfortable in modern society. Jenny Hill is under a cloud and may yet face
charges. Yet she got re-elected in 2020.
Its no wonder Townsville Mayor Jenny Hill is appealing
to the far right, Tony Mooney did it (see comments) whipping
up hatred of indigenous people to suit the aims of CBD developers who just happened to be donors.
Its no wonder Townsville Mayor Jenny Hill is defending
the statue. She helped put it there and to remove it means shaming all her
voters who think truth telling is bringing them down.
She needs them.
Here is what she said on ch7 Townsville on their
facebook site 15/6/2020 here https://www.facebook.com/529629870416437/videos/2613520542299541/
and here https://www.facebook.com/529629870416437/videos/4035695453112327/
In an extract from Todays Townsville Bulletin 16/6/2020 she is
quoted as saying on page 1 and 3 in an article by Tess Ikonomou “ I see no
reason to remove the Robert Towns statue and I think people need to view the
statue in the context of Pioneers Walk She said. Other Townsville on the walk
include John Melton Black , Loan Innes Reid , and Eddie Mabo. They are all significant
people that are part of Townsville’s history and , good or bad, they have been
involved in the creation of this community. Cr Hill said there was insufficient
evidence to support the allegations of Towns was a blackbirder and slave trader.
In response to feedback from the community , a previous council engaged Dr Kett
Kennedy , a then professor of history at James Cook University, to undertake
research on Robert Towns she said. Dr Kennedy’s research could not conclusively
prove that Mr Towns was knowingly involved in some of the activities he is
alleged to have been involved in”
(1) In
South African under pre-existing and Apartheid times which mirrored ours,
Pioneers translated as “Voortrekkers” ;and
(2) “And
good and bad…” is a nod to her donors and previous donors.; and feedback from
the community in a right wing town gives you the desired result!
Below is an extract of what I have previously put on
the net about the type of people who would defend the Blackbirder statue. It’s
a message to the filthy far right and fascists in Townsville and North Qld .
Its goes for all the monuments to murderers and oppressors in Australia’s
colonial times aswell . You can call those opposed to truth telling UNITARY
ACTORS. They are of the same ilk, cut from the same cloth as each other.
“Now,
a while back I suggested erecting something next to it to give it context. If
you removed it and the plaque on Castle Hill completely, then in a couple of
generations no one will know what sort of far right people were here in
2005-2020 . You only have to go to the electoral sites and get the numbers to
put on the plaque explaining that labor, who knew the story of slavery was
trying to appeal to the fascist and nazi vote in 2004- YOU - FAR RIGHT
TOWNSVILLE ! .
Dont
get me wrong , Im in favour of persons unknown doing him (Towns) in, but
something has to be there to say what you did. And what you defended cos you
are like a bunch of disgruntled Afrikaaners running around complaining that
life was better under apartheid .
You
defend it because you cant believe you are on the wrong side . But like the
nazis who waited till the last minute before the allies kicked the door in to
remove the picture of Hitler off the wall , you'll all say you never voted for
the fascist or the labor/LNP and Townsville Mafia crooks and old guard LNP cops
who had to be in a long time to be inspector and taken part in North Qld cops
fascist crook shenanigans and who hasnt even taken the uniform off…hmmmn
rednecks ? Why don’t you do a quick net search on the subjects?”

How Mooney kept power till 2008 . Its because he slipped the net numerous times.
“COULTHART: These are boom times in Townsville. And many locals do resent
what they see as an unfair national focus on its racial issues. That same
civic pride led to the recent dedication of this statue honouring the city's
founder Robert Towns. But, for Townsville's aborigines, the real story
behind Towns is the claim that he was a notorious 'blackbirder' who made his
money by kidnapping Pacific Islanders to work here.
TONY MOONEY - TOWNSVILLE MAYOR: We are a very open and tolerant community
and unfortunately for me I don't control the police or the courts so I can't
really comment on that. But we treat everyone fairly and this community has
been a very welcoming community to all types of races, be they black or
white.
COULTHART: Mayor Tony Mooney rejects suggestions Townsville has any more of
a racial problem than any other Australian city. Prior to this interview
with Mayor Mooney we told his office we'd be referring to allegations about
his own past. In 1989 the Queensland Parliament was told how when he was
Deputy Mayor he'd driven away after hitting a pedestrian. an Aboriginal man.
and that Mr Mooney smelled of alcohol after being chased and brought back to
the scene by another motorist. It was also alleged in Parliament that police
then let him go home without demanding a breath test. Tony Mooney insisted
the allegations were untrue and refused to discuss them.
COULTHART: Were you drinking?
TONY MOONEY: No, no - I am not going to go over that again.
COULTHART: Did you hit and run?
TONY MOONEY: I am interested in issues which is very important to people in
this community in 2006.
COULTHART: Why is it not relevant?
TONY MOONEY: And I want to say again that if you have serious concerns about
this community this year you then ought to get on to those concerns and put
those things to me.
COULTHART: Do you accept that there is in this community a double standard?
TONY MOONEY: No, this community is no different to every other community
around the country. There are no double standards here.
COULTHART: But like many Aborigines we spoke to, Jordan Gee-Hoy and his
brother John say there's a racial undercurrent in Townsville that few city
leaders want to acknowledge. Several months after Errol Wyles died they
claim they were assaulted by a gang of white youths. an attack they say the
police failed to properly investigate.”

www.theage.com.au/national/victoria/f-k-the-premier-labor-s-secret-tapes-reveal-industrial-scale-stackathon-20200614-p552g2.html Ripper of a yarn. Smacks
of Lee Birmingham who was at the center of the Shepherdson inquiry into the
same thing in Qld.
They said he was teaching others how
to do it too. Now , the allegations against the then Townsville Mayor Mooney
who ended up taking 5k from Obeid in 2010 was that he had made arrangements to
move members to his branch without their knowledge. He is now chair of
Townsville hospital board. Is it appropriate to him in such a position of trust???
He was mayor when they put up the Townsville
statue of Blackbirder/slaver Robert Towns.
These links appear to give a sanitised view but I just put them there
for the pics as evidence http://monumentaustralia.org.au/themes/people/industry/display/92821-robert-towns https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Robert_Towns .
He was interviewed by Ross Coulthart of
the then Sunday Programme about his hit run of an aboriginal man in this story
about the hit run murder of aboriginal boy Errol Wyles Jr . He
was involved in 3 incidents, the Qld Hansard records. More on this below the explanation
of Birmingham .
The Shepherdson inquiry Report has their tactics back then from Qld to
compare
Looking
back , the “where are they now ?” story from the Qld Shepherdson Inquiry is a
ripper yarn too . The Shepherdson Inquiry report https://www.ccc.qld.gov.au/sites/default/files/2020-01/The-Shepherdson-inquiry-Report-2001.pdf

can go to my blog http://cynicismcentraltownsvilleaustralia.blogspot.com to fill in a few more donations
corruption gaps on people like former Labor right Townsville Mayor Tony Mooney

Many the people mentioned in the Shepherdson
Inquiry kept their snouts in the trough.
Mike

Lee Bermingham and Mike Kaiser got
consultancies and government work too.
Lee Bermingham
, whom many at the Shepherdson Inquiry of 2001 into labor electoral roll
rigging and rorts said had taught them how to do it was made to appear like he
copped it to the public . But everyone
was repaying favours by the look of it.

I spoke to Dave

and he confirmed it to me many years ago. He said he smelt of alcohol. Former Cop John Pennisi who was running with
then labor party cop Peter Pyke , mentioned in the Hansard , was on the
