Whilst everyone knows about
all the qld nickel, mineralogy and PUP donations stuff, if you had a keen eye
you can see there is with most donations a correlation between the start of the
donations and the airing of or asking for some approval.
A new refinery would have made Yabulu redundant. We need to clean Yabulu off the map and remediate the site.
History shows we are going to get more dam wall collapses. The place must never be allowed to reopen.
But, the industry and Townsville Mayor Jenny Hill , like all carte blanche mining and Adani supporters , will see it as a die in a ditch issue and as a slap in their face to say it was wrong in the first place and you shouldn’t do things like that.
All the money , hundreds of millions over the decades , wasted on unconstitutional chaplains would have paid for the remediation creating jobs.
Yabulu and Sun metals are too close to our world heritage area coast and Marine Park.
As for Yabulu we have had problems with cyclones and the tailings dams and they are getting worse. And the sprawl is creeping up on Yabulu and they have no more room to create more dams. Better to bite the bullet now!
Way before Clive Palmer in 94/95 , at QNI , I worked in the roasters (330 area) as a dayworker/shiftwork/burner operator . That means I checked the temperatures, adjusted them or changed the burners or we slag tapped the molten stuff out of the burner chambers in silver suits to remedy the problem. It was like lava.
Also the leaching plant/thickners (340 area) and the packing plant (for a short time on the caterpillar loader ) and helped with explosive blasting to de-scale pipes .
When we did the shut down work on the tanks , the floors were thick steel plates welded together like a pie graph. Sometimes, those plates were breached . the tanks had to be drained and we went in in suits and breathing apparatus , either long lines or cannister masks after the gas dissapated enough in the confined space.
Those tanks had been in place since 1974 and the aqua ammonia had leaked through those floors since then. And that was 1994-5. Its now the 2nd decade of the 2000's.
Qld nickel has exclusive rights to the Black River Artesian Basin . Ammonia is a leaching agent . It will have leached heavy metals through the soil layers. All you have to do is put test bores down and test the soil and water. This wont happen with pressure to re-open the refinery. If it does re-open they wont do anything that SHOWS they covered up these issues COS ITS A CRIME TO COVER IT UP COS IT WILL GO TO COURT.
Every pipe coming out of the coolers to
the leaching plant and the gas plant pipes will be clogged with ammonia laden scale
like cement and it can be 5 inches thick.
They all would have to be pulled out and blasted by laying 6 rows of detonating cord (with old conveyor belt on top to concentrate the blast) on top which cracks it , then you lift one end with a crane and bash with a sledge hammer till it rings like a bell .
You may even be able to see the lines on the pipes with google.

necessarily used in the pejorative sense. The word may only mean “make up” or

obstructed by impairing the capacity of a court to do justice. An act which has

pervert the course of justice can be committed when there are no curial

evidence that the accused has done enough for there to be a risk without

along Saunders Beach rd. I took photo’s of this on behalf of the Co-ordinator at
the time of The North Qld Conservation Council Jeremy Tager.
